Enhancements Provide More Connectivity Options and Improved Reliability for Mission-Critical Applications Running on Open Source
CHICAGO, ILLINOIS and TORONTO, ONTARIO--(Marketwire - Aug. 3, 2010) - CLUECON 2010 - Sangoma Technologies Corporation (TSX VENTURE:STC), a leading provider of hardware and software enabling server-based voice and data communication applications, today announced the release of Sangoma Media Gateway (SMG) 3.0.
SMG builds on Sangoma's FreeTDM, a powerful Public Switched Telephone Network (PSTN) interface module the company launched in March. SMG 3.0 offers application developers support for multiple telephony protocols, improving usability, scalability, and reliability for applications running on Asterisk® and FreeSWITCH® open source platforms.
With telecom application development largely migrating to VoIP, there is still a great need to interconnect voice applications to the TDM networks. SMG 3.0 facilitates this migration by providing a wide range of TDM protocols for enterprise and carrier-based solutions by introducing several new features that are directly accessible to both FreeSWITCH and Asterisk users, including:
* Improved reliability of applications through support for a wide selection of proven telecom protocols, including: o SS7 signalling with ANSI, ITU and multiple other country-specific variants o ISDN PRI and BRI signalling with ANSI, ETSI and Japanese variants
* Improved ease-of-use with XML-based configuration files and scripts
"While we are seeing developers and integrators increasingly adopt open source telephony for a wide range of enterprise and carrier- based deployments, they prefer to concentrate their efforts on application development and not spend considerable resources developing expertise on TDM protocols," said Frederic Dickey, director of marketing and product management at Sangoma. "By leveraging Sangoma's long list of protocol variants and features, combined with our award- winning telecom boards all supported and maintained by Sangoma, our partners are able to concentrate on core product development activities. Additionally, with the increased reliability Sangoma brings to applications running on open source, our partners can confidently deploy their mission-critical applications globally."
SMG 3.0 is currently in Beta testing and is anticipated to be generally available in Q4 2010. Future releases will incorporate additional connectivity options, such as analog and MFC-R2, user-friendly features such as web-based GUIs for configuration and management, and high-availability features for increased robustness and capacity.
